A brand of Dubai-style chocolate has been recalled by the FSA as it contains undeclared peanuts.
The product is Neosis Schokolade Love of Dubai chocolate 95g, which is manufactured by Neosis, Gida ve Unlu Mam Ltd. All lot numbers and best before dates are affected.
The FSA has urged all food businesses selling the product in the UK to immediately stop sales and to undertake product withdrawals, and where there have been retail sales, to undertake product recalls. This is because the product presents a serious risk to anyone with an allergy to peanuts.
Furthermore, the FSA has urged consumers not to buy the product, and if they have bought it not to eat it – especially if they have a peanut allergy.
Instead, consumers should dispose of the product at home and get in touch with their local Trading Standards in Great Britain or Environmental Health officers in Northern Ireland, to let them know where they purchased it.
According to the FSA, businesses had been supplied the Neosis Schokolade Love of Dubai chocolate bar by a company called Black Sea Trading, which has so far been uncontactable. As a result, food safety action is required by the food businesses selling these products.
The FSA said it was working closely with relevant enforcement authorities to progress investigations and ensure affected products are withdrawn from the market. It was also informing allergy organisations of the issue.
It comes just one month after the FSA issued a warning to retailers, importers and consumers that some Dubai-style chocolate being sold in the UK may pose a risk to individuals with food allergies.
