Hatch Mansfield is to simplify its leadership structure by consolidating the responsibilities of its MD and CEO into a single role.

Patrick McGrath, who has led Hatch Mansfield since its founding in 1994, is to transition from CEO to the role of chairman after 32 years at the helm of the wine business.

Meanwhile, MD Ben Knollys is to stand down and leave the business after 24 years in October.

Knollys joined Hatch Mansfield in 2002 after stints at The International Wine Challenge, Berkmann, Lea & Sandeman and Fuller’s. He worked his way through various sales roles at Hatch Mansfield, becoming sales director in 2012, and then joining its board in 2017.

He has been MD of Hatch Mansfield since 2021.

“The time feels right for me to take on a new challenge,” said Knollys. “I am enormously proud of what we have built together at Hatch Mansfield and I leave with great affection for the business and want to take this opportunity to thank from the bottom of my heart our wonderful colleagues, supplier partners and customers who have made it such an enjoyable journey.”

McGrath added: “Ben has been a highly valued colleague, leader and friend to many across the business. He has played such an important part in the development and success of the business and we thank him enormously for his dedication and wish him every success in the future.”

A process to appoint a new CEO would now begin, with a further announcement made “in due course”, Hatch Mansfield added.
