All three sandwiches have an rsp of £4.50

Tootoomoo has launched two Japanese-style sandos and a pulled pork banh mi into Sainsbury’s.

The sandos – inspired by the generously filled sandwiches on “pillowy” soft bread, found in Tokyo convenience stores – are Miso Chicken and Egg & Chive.

The former combines crispy chicken with slaw and an “umami-packed, creamy” miso and yuzu dressing. The latter combines egg mayonnaise with crunchy pickled daikon radish and chives.

Meanwhile, Sriracha Pulled Pork Banh Mi is inspired by the baguettes found in Vietnamese street food stalls.

All three sandwiches have launched in stores today (1 September), with an rsp of £4.50. They are included as a main dish in Sainsbury’s’ £5 premium lunchtime meal deal.

“We’ve seen sandos in the UK, but perhaps they’ve been a bit out of touch,” said Tootoomoo founder Philip McGuinness.

“Our sandos and banh mi are the real deal, inspired by what millions grab for lunch every day across Asia.

“When our customers are looking to eat they don’t want a novelty, they want authentic flavour done right,” McGuinness added.

Tootoomoo is a pan-Asian restaurant group, with eateries in north London.

It launched an initial six-strong food-to-go range into Sainsbury’s in April, including the likes of Spicy Dan Dan Beef Shophouse Noodles and Katsu Chicken Sushi Tacos.
