Changes will vary by location but will include creating more space to shop alongside the introduction of more sustainable features, such as energy-efficient fridge doors

Aldi is set to upgrade 25 store locations across the UK this summer as part of its wider £300m investment into existing stores throughout 2026.

Changes will vary by location but will include creating more space to shop alongside the introduction of more sustainable features, such as energy-efficient fridge doors and natural refrigerants to help reduce carbon emissions.

Selected stores will also benefit from upgraded bakery, health & beauty, and fresh food areas.

Locations set to benefit from upgrades include London, Aberdeen, Nottingham and Manchester, with stores in York, Liverpool and Yarm to undergo extensions to provide wider aisles.

“We’re continuing to invest in our stores to ensure our customers have the best possible shopping experience at Aldi,” said Aldi UK MD of national real estate Jonathan Neale.

“These upgrades will help us create even more convenient and efficient stores for both customers and colleagues while also supporting our sustainability ambitions.”

It builds on the discounter’s wider investment plans for 2026, which also include a £370m commitment to opening new stores across the UK.

In May, Aldi called on the public to help its property team identify the best locations for new stores by asking them to submit suggestions.

Boosting its portfolio further, the grocer also began operations on what it says is the largest supermarket warehouse in Britain last month.

The 1.3 million sq ft distribution centre in Bardon, Leicestershire will handle nearly seven million pallets a year and serve nearly 350 stores once fully operational.
