Lancashire-based chilled and ambient wholesaler Clegg’s Chilled Foodservice has joined buying group Sterling Supergroup.

Clegg’s Chilled Foodservice was founded in 1984 by Mark Clegg, and was acquired by two of his children, Richard Clegg and Lucy Ross, in January 2025.

It was originally a cheese business, supplying Lancashire cheese to local markets. While dairy remains a specialty within the business, Clegg’s is adding more ambient lines and is looking to introduce some frozen capacity in the near future.

“We are looking forward to getting stuck in and really feeling part of the group,” said Clegg’s Chilled Foodservice MD Richard Clegg. “We hope to learn from current members and share our chilled expertise, as we continue on our journey of growth.”

Sterling Supergroup chief commercial officer Daniel Larkin added: “We’re really happy to welcome Clegg’s and their team to Sterling Supergroup. Clegg’s embody everything Sterling stands for: authentic, hard-working, and deeply community focused.

“That shared commitment to community is exactly what drew Clegg’s to Sterling Supergroup and makes this partnership such a strong fit.”

It is not the first wholesaler to join Sterling Supergroup as a member this year. In January, Mason Foodservice joined the buying group as part of its ongoing growth plan, and just last month, Dundee-based John D Forrest also became a member.
