The jumbo spring rolls have launched in three variants

Itsu has expanded its frozen offering with Jumbo Spring Rolls.

The lineup comprises Coconut Chicken, Hoisin Duck and Vegetable Crunch (rsp: £3.95/4x75g) – all hand-rolled in crispy pastry.

At 75g each, the Jumbo Spring Rolls were double the size of other frozen spring rolls available on the market, claimed Itsu. The larger format therefore made them “highly versatile” and suitable as a starter, side or main, it added.

Coconut Chicken combines chicken, red peppers, green beans and coriander in a coconut curry sauce infused with lemongrass and lime leaf, and topped with a mix of panko, desiccated coconut and lime leaf.

Hoisin Duck features duck and a medley of cabbage, spring onion and bean sprouts in a “fruity, aromatic” hoisin sauce made with plum purée and black beans, topped with a panko and sesame seed crumb.

Vegetable Crunch, meanwhile, combines kimchi, pulled oyster mushrooms, water chestnuts, green beans and julienne carrots with a sweet and spicy Korean-inspired sauce, topped with a nori, white sesame seed and parsley panko crumb.

The rolls contain no artificial flavours or colours and can be cooked in the air fryer or oven.

They are already in Tesco and will roll into Sainsbury’s on 27 September, Ocado on 28 September, and Co-op and Morrisons next month.

The rolls were developed to meet growing demand for elevated takeaway-inspired foods and would bring a “more premium, restaurant-quality offering” to the frozen category, said Itsu.

Itsu’s on a roll

According Itsu’s own consumer research, 72% of spring roll shoppers said they would buy its Jumbo Rolls.

“We wanted to challenge expectations within the spring roll category by rethinking both format and flavour,” said Isabelle Lee, senior product developer at Itsu. “By creating a larger format spring roll, we’ve given consumers the flexibility to enjoy the product as a side or a satisfying main meal option.

“Every spring roll is hand-rolled and finished with its own bespoke topping, demonstrating a level of authenticity and attention to detail that is not typically seen in the category.”

The launch coincides with Itsu’s biggest ever national ATL campaign across TV, OOH and paid social. It will be supported by retail media activity and a dedicated creator campaign.
