JJ Foodservice has launched the Living Our Values (LOV) Awards, a new initiative to recognise colleagues who demonstrate the company’s values in their everyday work.

Colleagues can be nominated by their peers for demonstrating one of the foodservice wholesaler’s four values in action, which consist of quality-first, outstanding service, trust and loyalty, and ‘one JJ family’.

Judges will assess nominations against three criteria: a specific example of clear action, strong alignment with one or more JJ values, and evidence of meaningful, positive impact. The monthly winner will receive £250.

Warehouse manager Stephen Nicholson, who is based at JJ’s Newcastle branch, has been named the inaugural winner, recognised for outstanding service and trust and loyalty.

“It is a simple idea, but recognition can be incredibly powerful,” said JJ Foodservice head of HR Joanna Florczak. “When people feel appreciated, they are more engaged, more motivated and more connected to the wider business.

“The LOV Awards are a direct reflection of what we stand for as a business. Stephen’s actions show exactly what living those values looks like in practice – going above and beyond for customers and colleagues alike. We’re proud to recognise him as our first-ever winner, and we’re looking forward to celebrating many more stories like his.”

The awards form part of a wider refresh of JJ’s mission, vision and values, introduced as the business continues to grow.

In March, the business announced it had acquired a new 28,000 sq ft site in Ipswich, due to open later this year. It also confirmed that its 33,000 sq ft Nottingham branch remained on track to open this summer.

The openings form part of the group’s national expansion drive, after it set out a five-year strategy in October to launch eight new branches and its first overseas facility in the Netherlands.
