Lakes Free Range Egg Co has partnered with Cancer Research UK to fund life-saving research.

The Cumbrian supplier will donate 2p for every dozen of its Laid With Love branded eggs sold to the charity as part of the three-year partnership, with a guaranteed minimum of £50k per year donated.

The move builds on a long-standing relationship which has seen the business donate over £65k to Cancer Research UK to date.

The brand said it had been impressed by the charity’s “breadth of research and their facilities” at its Newcastle site, which is why it had chosen to make it the primary beneficiary of the donations.

“Since launch, our Laid With Love brand has donated thousands of pounds to cancer research charities in the UK,” said Lakes Free Range Egg Co owners David and Helen Brass.

They added: “These naturally golden, tasty eggs are not just a healthy breakfast, they are making a difference by helping fund expert cancer nurses, accelerating groundbreaking clinical trials and bringing new treatments to patients faster than ever before.”

Cancer Research UK relationship manager for northeast England and Cumbria Nicky McKeanna said the charity was “delighted” to become the egg supplier’s primary charity.

“Their passion and flexibility have been instrumental in making this possible and I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to the team, especially to owners David and Helen Brass, MD Mark Gaskin and sales director Rebekkah Minchin-Hepburn, for their unwavering commitment.”

She added: “Partnerships like this help make our progress possible. Over the past 50 years, our pioneering work has helped double cancer survival in the UK.”
