Urban Eat has unveiled a high-protein chicken skewers range, as part of a push to meet the growing demand for high-protein snacks on the go.

The ready-to-eat range features three products: Chicken Satay Skewer Snack Bag (rsp: £1.99/56g), Chicken Satay Skewers with a Sweet Chilli Dip (rsp: £1.99/55g) and a large-pack variant (rsp: £2.79/100g).

The standard snack bag comes with seven skewers and 8g of protein per bag. The sweet chilli dip variant includes five skewers and 7g of protein, whilst the super-sized SKU contains 10 skewers and 14g of protein.

The Samworth Brothers Food For Now-owned brand said the skewers were marinaded in an aromatic seasoning for 12 hours before being grilled.

The development comes as chicken remains the leading protein within front-of-store chilled snacking. Urban Eat added that the category over-indexed with millennial and Gen Z consumers.

Since launching on 25 July, current stockists include Nisa and several forecourt retailers.

Wayne Greensmith, head of customer marketing at Food For Now, said the skewers were “set to make their mark in chillers up and down the country”.

“[They’re] perfect for lunchtime occasions, afternoon snacking or even as a main in a meal deal – we know our customers and shoppers are going to love them,” he continued.
