Each multipack features five 20g bags containing a 1.7-metre fruit string

Fruit snacks challenger Zombie has unveiled Stringz, a three-strong fruit string range that has launched exclusively in Tesco.

Available in Strawberry, Sour Apple and Blackcurrant flavours, each multipack (rsp: £3/5x20g) features five 20g bags containing a 1.7-metre fruit string.

Strawberry has secured the widest distribution, rolling into 800 Tesco stores, while Sour Apple and Blackcurrant have landed in 330 stores.

The range was designed to combine the “fun and playability of traditional string confectionery with a fruit-based proposition”, said Zombie.

It offered a “very different proposition to existing string-style sweets and snacks”, the brand said, adding that many rival products contain ingredients such as added sugar, glucose syrup, sorbitol and beef gelatine.

The snacks were therefore made with fruit and no added sugar. They are also high in fibre, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, and kosher and halal certified.

“We saw a huge opportunity to reinvent the string format. Kids already love the fun of eating string sweets, but until now there hasn’t been a real fruit option with no added sugar,” said Ann Perkins, founder of Zombie.

“Launching the UK’s first real fruit string with no added sugar straight into Tesco, and with Strawberry going into 800 supermarkets, is a major launch for us and one we think can really shake up the fruit snacking category.”
