Pizzagne will hit shelves in Asda from 26 October

Oscar Mayer and Asda have teamed up to launch Pizzagne, a hybrid ready meal that combines pizza and lasagne.

Two variants – Double Pepperoni and Meatball Marinara – will roll into Asda stores on 26 October under the retailer’s By Asda range.

Described as a “unique flavour innovation”, the HFSS-compliant dish (rsp: £6.57) features “traditional Italian lasagne topped with pizza favourites”, in an 850g “sliceable” format designed to serve four.

It was developed at Oscar Mayer’s innovation centre in Wrexham to meet consumer demand for more variety and novelty in weekly meals, the manufacturer said.

“We’re really proud of this unique meal concept. I have seen nothing quite like it in all my time in the industry, so credit goes to our Gastro Hub chefs who came up with this idea,” said Chris Taylor, executive director of sales & marketing at Oscar Mayer.

“What we wanted to do with this product was to tackle two issues: first, redress the usual ‘pizza or pasta’ debate many families have, and also to create a fun hybrid meal to bring everyone to the table and inject that sense of novelty and conversation with a unique eating experience that is a welcome antidote to regular weekly meal patterns.”

It comes after volume sales of own-label pizza fell by 4.3 million kilos in the year to 5 September 2026, according to NIQ data.

Pizza and lasagne mash-ups

Some consumers may already be familiar with ‘pizzagne’, as food creators and restaurants have already experimented with mash-ups of the two Italian classics.

Food creator Sheila Williams (@shewillevolve) posted a recipe for Cheesy Pepperoni Pizza Lasagne to TikTok last June. The video had racked up more than 500k views and 49.8k likes by the time of publication.

In February, Manchester restaurant Vinocicchetti (@vinocicchetti) shared a video of a lasagne served inside a bowl made of pizza dough to TikTok. By the time of publication, the video had amassed more than nine million views and 620.3k likes.

Chefs haven’t always been impressed by fmcg brands’ attempts to reinvent Italian cuisine. For instance, Heinz’s “fail-proof” spaghetti carbonara in a can, which launched in 2024, was likened to catfood by Italian chef Alessandro Pipero.
