The Ahlhorn-based turkey processor is now part of Storteboom Food Group, which is owned by BPO – the private investment vehicle of 2 Sisters Food Group owner Ranjit Singh Boparan

The owner of 2 Sisters, Ranjit Singh Bopran, has had his takeover of German poultry processor Heidemark greenlit by the European Commission.

The Ahlhorn-based turkey processor has become part of Storteboom Food Group, which is owned by Boparan Private Office (BPO) – the private investment vehicle of 2 Sisters Food Group owner Ranjit Singh Boparan.

Although no figure has been put on Heidemark’s purchase, it employs more than 2,000 people at five locations and its most recent turnover was of around €760m.

Under the deal, Heidemark’s name would be retained, along with the leadership, management team, workforce and locations, and the business said further investments were being planned.

“As a European centre of excellence for turkey production, we are bringing our decades of experience, our innovative strength, and our market knowledge to the Storteboom Food Group in a targeted manner,” said Heidemark CEO Andres Ruff. “Together, we are laying the foundation for further organic growth in continental Europe while simultaneously strengthening sustainable, competitive poultry production.”

Storteboom Food Group CEO Veli Moluluo said Heidemark’s acquisition would strengthen the group’s long-term strategy in Europe and international reach.

“The Heidemark business benefits from a strong and long-serving colleague base supported by a great management team and alongside them we will continue to grow this business under the Storteboom portfolio,” Moluluo added. “We will work intensively on the process of integrating Heidemark within our business, benefitting from shared learnings and unlocking synergy opportunities.”

BPO is one of the UK’s leading food manufacturers, posting a turnover of more than €5bn a year and employing 25,000 people. The acquisition of Heidemark further extends a now-sprawling empire including Roberts Bakery and UK poultry farming operation Hook 2 Sisters.

The shareholders separately own Boparan Holdings Limited, which includes 2 Sisters Food Group, UK Poultry and Meal Solutions.

BPO president Boparan said the move strengthened the group’s “‘Next Gen’ strategy for advanced automation, innovation, productivity and net-zero sustainability”.

“Heidemark is a third-generation family business and is a well-established brand and a well-established business, and we will maintain and grow what they have created and make the Heidemark family proud,” he added.
