Elgin-based whisky distiller Gordon & MacPhail has appointed Mark Geary as its new chief executive.

Geary has been serving as the Benromach brand owner’s interim CEO since the departure of Phillip White in May.

White departed to “pursue other opportunities and interests”, the supplier said at the time.

Geary brought “a wealth of expertise in leadership, brand strategy, and international sales and marketing”, to the CEO role, said Gordon & MacPhail.

Prior to joining the company he worked in senior roles for Edrington over a 12-year stint, as well as being a drinks industry consultant.

“We are delighted to welcome Mark to the team,” said Gordon & MacPhail chair Neil Urquhart. “His proven track record in developing global brands, combined with his experience leading multi-country teams and delivering strategic growth, makes him an ideal fit.

“I’m sure he will provide great leadership and support to our skilled and dedicated team as we deliver exceptional whiskies to our customers around the world.”

Geary added: “Gordon & MacPhail is a company with an exceptional heritage and an ambitious vision for the future. I am excited to be joining the team at such a pivotal time and look forward to contributing my experience to help unlock growth opportunities for its brands on a global scale, while supporting the development of its talented people.”

His appointment comes shortly after Gordon & MacPhail completed a multimillion-pound warehouse expansion at its Benromach Distillery site in Forres.

The company also owns and operates the Cairn Distillery near Grantown-on-Spey.
