Pilgrim’s Europe has completed a £6m-plus upgrade of its Potton Farm site which supplies chicken products across the UK and export markets.
The multimillion-pound revamp of the Cambridgeshire site included the replacement of its existing timber-framed poultry sheds with five, larger, steel-framed, clear span, modern buildings.
According to the multinational, it has increased the farm’s capacity by making “more effective use” of its existing footprint.
Pilgrim’s has also installed new ventilation and misting systems at the site, alongside the “latest feeding technologies”, giving its team greater control over conditions within the buildings. This, the multinational said, would help the farm “maintain consistently high standards of animal welfare and performance”.
A redesigned site layout has also improved access and movement around the farm, “providing modern facilities for colleagues and helping the site operate more efficiently”.
Commenting on the development, Pilgrim’s Europe head of broiler operations UK Aaron McKenna said the investment “represents a significant commitment to the long-term future of the site and to poultry production in the region”.
“The transformation of the site provides our teams with modern facilities that will support the farm for years to come, enabling us to continue delivering high standards of bird welfare, operating as efficiently as possible and providing the best service to our customers,” he added.
