Sainsbury’s has extended its partnership with Uber Eats, allowing UK customers to collect Nectar points on rapid grocery deliveries.
Shoppers can collect one Nectar point for every £1 spent when ordering Sainsbury’s groceries via the Uber Eats app or online. The rollout will bring rapid delivery with rewards to customers shopping from over 1,300 Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.
The integration builds on the existing capability to redeem points for Uber Vouchers, meaning customers can now collect and spend Nectar points across the entire Uber ecosystem.
“We’re creating even more ways for people to get great value from Nectar through our partnership with Uber,” said Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer Mark Given. “It’s another way we’re helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they’re stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier.”
Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail UK Katie Hunter added: “We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury’s orders was a no-brainer. It’s all about delivering flexibility, convenience, and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries.”
It follows a similar move last November when Nectar launched on the Deliveroo platform, allowing members to collect points when they shop with Sainsbury’s through the rapid delivery firm’s app.
The news also comes as Tesco is launching on both Uber Eats and Deliveroo to offer rapid grocery delivery to “millions more shoppers”.
Tesco had stood alone among its major supermarket competitors in not listing its stores on the aggregator apps, instead offering customers ultra-fast delivery only via its own quick commerce service Tesco Whoosh. However, it will launch on Uber Eats in August, and Deliveroo later this summer.
