Greggs CEO Roisin Currie has said the food-to-go chain has no plans to raise prices further this year, as inflationary pressures have begun to ease.

Speaking with media today, after the bakery chain reported sales growth of 7.2% to £1.1bn in the 26 weeks to 27 June 2026, Currie said she believes Greggs’ pricing is “in the right place currently”.

“As we came into this year, we expected inflation to be around 3% for the year. We have guided today that we now expect that to be around 2% for the year.

“There will be no further price rises passing through in the market as long as it [inflation] stays at that current position that we’re predicting.”

She explained that Greggs’ inflation predictions came as a result of the chain having hedged 90% of its energy for the year and around 50% for next year. It also comes after items such as cocoa and coffee, which experienced high levels of inflation in 2025, have “normalised and become deflationary in 2026”.

Currie added that the business feels it is now in a “good place in terms of protecting the customer and continuing to offer that great value product”.

Her comments come after a series of price rises at Greggs in recent months. In May, the retailer increased the price of its meal deals for the second time in 12 months, with its breakfast deal rising 10p to £3.25 and its two-part lunch increasing 10p to £4.25.

Its ‘Big Deal’, which launched in September 2025 at a £5 price point, rose to £5.25.

Over the year, Greggs saw operating profit jump 22.9% to £86.5m, with profit before tax up 19.7% to £76m, as it “remained focused” on its campaign to open more shops.

The company’s estate now includes 2,773 shops, and Greggs has set a goal of opening 100 stores a year to reach its target estate of 3,500.

Currie said that she is “very optimistic” of the store rollout plans but believes Greggs could surpass the 3,500 target.

“The reason we said 3,500 is because the supply chain we are building, from a logistics perspective, gives us the capacity for that number of shops. However, we think looking at our white space review, we could go beyond that.”

As well as its full-sized stores, Greggs has been trialling other formats, including ’Bitesize Greggs’, which offers a tailored range of bestselling products, and ‘Greggs Express’, a self-service solution. There are now four Bitesize shops and three Express sites, with plans to extend the Express format to a further seven locations by the end of the year.
