Tesco is to recruit more than 28,000 temporary colleagues across the UK ahead of the Christmas period.
The roles will mainly involve working in the supermarket giant’s Extra superstores and Express convenience stores, serving customers or picking orders for grocery home delivery orders.
Shifts will be available across the day, including early morning and evening. Tesco is also offering a small number of picking roles at its distribution centres around the country.
After Christmas, there will be opportunities for temporary colleagues to move to permanent jobs, where positions become available, Tesco said.

“We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make it a season to remember for our customers,” said Tesco group people services director Ela Golab. “We are looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip.
“We’re also keen to hear from applicants who may want to stay with us after Christmas and begin building a career at Tesco.
“No day is ever the same, and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What’s more, no experience is necessary – just the right attitude.”
It comes after Sainsbury’s, M&S, Waitrose and Boots also kicked off Christmas recruitment campaigns.
Sainsbury’s aims to hire 17,500 additional staff ahead of the festive period, while M&S is looking to recruit for 11,000 seasonal store support roles and Boots is hunting for 6,000 temporary colleagues.
