Chefs Choice potatoes range

Fresh produce foodservice provider Fresh Direct has added two new potato products to its premium Chef’s Choice range.

Selected from premium British varieties, Fresh Direct is rolling out Salad Potatoes with a “fresh, vibrant flavour and a smooth, waxy skin” and “generously sized” Baking Potatoes.

The new products build on the successful launch of the supplier’s Chef’s Choice Chipping and Roasting Potato. The premium range has been developed in collaboration with producer Linwood Crops following “extensive trials and taste tests”.

After harvest, Linwood ensures strict store conditioning management and regular on-farm testing. Each batch undergoes “rigorous checks” for starch and sugar levels, dry matter content, and a sample from every load is cooked to “guarantee perfect performance” for chipping, roasting and baking, according to the Sysco-owned fresh wholesaler.

“Potatoes are an integral part of the menu,” said Fresh Direct head of food development Ian Nottage. “Our Chef’s Choice range has been rigorously tested by chefs, for chefs – and the results have been phenomenal. These potatoes will make a real difference in kitchens across the UK.

“These potatoes provide the quality and consistency that chefs need to ensure they create perfect dishes every single time.”

In September, Fresh Direct became an official partner of Love British Food, the organisation that supports and promotes the use of food grown and sourced in the UK.

It has been working with British growers and customers to increase the amount of British food that it sells as part of its commitment to focus on providing the freshest, in-season British fruit and vegetables
