Kids’ food brand Little Dish has expanded into cooking sauces with two veg-packed chilled SKUs.
The company has worked with child nutritionist Charlotte Stirling-Reed to include a variety of hidden veggies and extras like sunflower seeds and chickpeas in the sauces, maintaining a smooth texture to appeal to “tiny tastebuds”.
Its Tomato & 5-Veg Sauce contains tomatoes, carrots, onions, red peppers, sweet potatoes, and chickpeas. It provides two of a child’s recommended 5 a day, and contains no added salt or sugar. It is also dairy-free and suitable for vegetarians.
Creamy Pesto & Cheese Sauce, meanwhile, contains hidden veg including peas, broccoli, spinach, onion, and celery. It provides one of a child’s recommended 5 a day with no added sugar, and is gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians.
Both will be available in Sainsbury’s from 16 September, with Ocado and Morrisons to follow in October (rsp £2.85/250g).
“Shop-bought tomato and pesto cooking sauces often contain added sugar and too much salt for young children, so we’ve made a healthier, fresh alternative with added vegetables,” said Dean Brown, Little Dish CEO.
Little Dish and Stirling-Reed have also developed a collection of quick and easy recipes to provide dinner inspiration for time-poor parents. Shoppers can scan the QR code on the lid of both sauces to access the online recipe hub.
Little Dish was founded by Hillary Graves in 2006 after she had her first child and wanted to fill a gap in the market for fresh, nutritionally balanced meals for young children that tasted as good as homemade.
Last year it was the fastest-growing ready meals brand in the UK, with retail sales topping £40m [NIQ 52 w/e 6 September 2025].
