Italian food brand Sunny & Luna has expanded into sauces for the first time.
Pots in Aubergine & Salted Ricotta Tomato and Sundried Tomato Pesto have rolled into 300 Sainsbury’s stores (rsp: £3/130-180g).
A third flavour – Courgette & Pistachio Pesto – will launch exclusively on Ocado alongside the other two flavours from next month.
The three sauces are made in Italy and take their inspiration from classic Italian recipes, “reimagined for modern mealtimes”. They contain no preservatives, added sugar or seed oils.
Aubergine & Salted Ricotta Tomato Sauce is “a rich tomato sauce with aubergine and salted ricotta”, while Sundried Tomato Pesto is a plant-based pesto made with sundried tomatoes.
Rounding out the range, Courgette & Pistachio Pesto is billed as a “fresh, creamy green pesto made with courgette, pistachio and basil, rich in vegetables”.
The NPD marks the brand’s first move beyond pasta and gnocchi, making it possible for shoppers to make fresh Italian meals from Sunny & Luna alone for the first time.
“When we launched our pasta and gnocchi range, we wanted to prove that Italian food could be better for you without losing the reasons people love it,” said Sunny & Luna founder Giulia Berretti. “Convenience and quality have been treated as opposites for too long, and that is the gap Sunny & Luna was built to close.
“Pasta and gnocchi were our starting point; sauces are the natural next step, allowing us to offer the complete meal around the same principles of great ingredients, better nutrition and genuine convenience.”
Launched by Berretti in 2022, Sunny & Luna is now stocked across more than 400 UK retail locations, with listings spanning Sainsbury’s, Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic and Ocado.
