Isle of Skye-based distillery Torabhaig has secured its first UK grocery listing.
Torabhaig Taigh, the distiller’s newly launched core expression, is to land in 67 Waitrose stores on 4 May (rsp:£47/70cl).
Unveiled in March, Torabhaig Taigh is a peated single malt whisky matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon, refill bourbon and madeira casks.
Bottled at 46% abv, with no chill-filtration or added colour, Taigh was “both characterful and approachable”, Torabhaig said.
Shoppers could expect “gentle smoke wrapped around flavours of vanilla custard, toasted almond, sweet dried fruits and warming spice”, the scotch distiller added.
“Taigh is the heart of Torabhaig,” said Torabhaig whisky maker Neil MacLeod Mathieson. “It captures everything we’ve been working towards since we first started distilling – a whisky with elegance, balance and character, where smoke enhances the flavour rather than dominating it.
“First-fill bourbon barrels have always been the signature of Torabhaig and allow our ‘Smoke with Taste’ philosophy to shine. But, the addition of Madeira in this expression brings a softening roundness to the spirit that we think makes this whisky especially welcoming.”
John Vine, spirits buyer at Waitrose, added: “We always want to bring in new and exciting whiskies to Waitrose, which is why Torabhaig’s elegant interpretation of peat with Taigh is so perfect for us.
“It’s wonderful whisky from one of the newer distilleries out there and we can’t wait to see what our customers make of it.”
