Sunderland-based Young’s Foodservice has joined buying group Sterling Supergroup.

A family business, Young’s Foodservice dates back to the 1940s. In 1975, the father of current managing director, Richard Young, set up independently, producing cooked meats and black pudding.

In 2019, the business underwent a major expansion as it moved to new premises, added frozen and ambient ranges, opened a specialist butchery, and developed a full range of sandwich fillers and marinades.

Today, Young’s Foodservice supplies a wide variety of customers including hotels, restaurants, and a Premier League football team, covering North Yorkshire to the Scottish Borders with a fleet of 11 refrigerated vehicles.

“Joining Sterling Supergroup marks an exciting step forward for us, enabling improved sourcing, stronger partnerships, and enhanced value for our customers,” said Sterling Supergroup MD Richard Young.

Sterling Supergroup chief commercial officer Daniel Larkin added: “Young’s Foodservice strengthens Sterling’s network by extending our coverage into a key region not currently served. Their long-standing family heritage and impressive growth make them an excellent addition to the group, and we’re excited about the opportunities this partnership will create.”

It comes after family-owned and operated business Robinson Wholesale also joined Sterling Supergroup, just last week. Based in Cheshire, Robinson Wholesale provides food solutions to a range of sectors, including education, healthcare, leisure, and independent retailers.
